Our latest bespoke kitchen – more detail

This is a refit and general redressing of a tired kitchen for clients that live up towards Leighton Buzzard, and we first posted about it a couple of weeks ago. Here’s some more insight into what we did.

It responded to a detailed brief – providing a series of custom fittings designed to address a wide range of storage and display needs. We incorporated a combination of both new and refurbishment of existing cabinetry, including a new curved top in solid maple for the metal table base made by local artisan blacksmith, David Scott at Ludley Forge. Existing appliances were re-housed and others added – a built-in microwave and extractor hood. The original kitchen in a wood finish is brought up to date by mixing in painted cabinets – where necessary new cabinetry was ‘aged’ to match the existing darker timber.

Larder Cabinet

We carefully removed the original cabinet interior. A new interior was then made – drawers, with internal dividers, and a vegetable basket; to finish we built custom racks for the existing doors. This re-design maximises ease of use by incorporating curved shelves, motion-activated interior lighting and storage for set of steps used to reach the top cupboards. The original granite slab was ‘trimmed’ to fit the new cabinet.

Oven cabinet and plate rack

These new cabinets include a useful plate rack / shelf in solid maple with a book shelf above. The oven housing has attractive tongue and groove side panel with set of custom-made maple shaker style pegs – for kitchen linens. The lower drawer includes more custom-made dividers – for baking sheets etc…

Other features include

A display shelf, a double depth hot drinks drawer with adjustable partitioning, a baking cupboard which includes a series of pull out tray drawers including one to accommodate a large cake mixer.

Built-in LED task lighting, in-cupboard storage for sink accessories.

A pair of internal drawers within drawers and a set of removable custom-made dividers to separate / accommodate knife blocks, kitchen scales etc…

The result is a ‘new’ kitchen that is more than fit for purpose! Here is a list of some of the suppliers of some of the beautiful elements chosen for the kitchen by our client.
