Environmental awareness – actions, not words
It is very important to us, and to most of our customers, that our timber is sourced from sustainable sources. All our timber is therefore accepted only from suppliers who are certified by the FSC, which stands for Forest Stewardship Council. This independent, non-governmental worldwide industry body is responsible for promoting the sustainable and responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC strictly certifies and checks that wood or a wood based product is sourced from, made with, or contains, wood that comes from FSC certified forests or from post-consumer waste. You can read in detail about the work that the FSC works here: www.fsc-uk.org
We also buy our commonly used MDF and veneered MDF panels in large 8′ x 4′ sizes from a company called Eco Timber Panels, which is again, FSC certified. We are also happy to use timber from trees cut down and donated to use, like the lovely laburnum wood here.
No waste!
We have also recently invested in a Briquette Machine (from MAE Development) to convert the huge amounts of sawdust we produce into briquettes. We use the briquettes (and small unuseable off-cuts) to heat the workshop and will be using them to heat our new home (though we have to get the stove installed first!), and selling on to friends and family. In other words, nothing is ever wasted. See the process below!
