We’ve had the pleasure of being commissioned for several jobs over many months in the wonderful Arts and Crafts house in Gerrards Cross owned by clients, and you can look back though our blog posts to see what we’ve done up until now.

On this particular job, we were asked to make a study door, and make and fit architrave, skirting board and a threshold. In a historic house such as this, it’s very important that any details in the rest of the house are matched and respected, so that is what we do, every time!

The door is constructed in maple with moisture resistant MDF panels, and of mortice and tenon construction. This door matches to the present downstairs toilet door in component scale and the mouldings to front. The back is square edged, and the hinges match with the brass latch. The door sits in a solid maple frame with stops, and the architrave matches the existing living room doors on the outside, and are fitted and cut into the existing woodwork. The interior architrave matches the rest of the room. Skirting boards for both sides of the new wall and around chimney breast and up to the new door are made in maple, matching the existing piece of skirting on hallway side, and are cut in and refitted. All parts are fitted and sealed to the wall and spray primed ready for painting by the clients’ decorator.
Threshold piece is made from solid oak and feathered-out to the adjacent study with an oiled finish to match the floor. The handle is in solid brass to match.

Under stairs doors are 2 doors that bifold in the centre, and the door is constructed in 30mm maple with moisture resistant MDF panels, and of mortice and tenon construction. The detailing matches the bedroom doors and front door. The under stairs doors need a new thinner door frame inside cupboard, and the hinges had to be similar to the new study door. The doors catch shut and open with magnets, and the handles are in solid brass to match the others.
