Last month we finished fitting this understairs storage solution for our clients in Chalfont St Peter. Using the space under a staircase efficiently is probably one of the best ways you can add much-needed storage to a home – and we think that we are experts in designing clever solutions for understairs storage. In this particular case, the clients wanted a coat cupboard to one end of the storage unit, and a pull out solution for shoes behind.
So, we designed this understairs pull out and cupboard. We designed the ‘pull out’ unit that actually rolls out to sit on high quality, rubberised, heavy-duty castors and it pulls out to a stop – in other words, it doesn’t start rolling all around the ground floor of the house! This pull out contains fixed shelving (designed for shoes), and each shelf features a lip to prevent any footwear from slipping off. The pull out has a subtle recessed finger pull, making it easy to access the shoes quickly.
The cupboard has both shelf space and hanging space. We constructed the tongue and groove door of the cupboard in moisture resistant, furniture grade MDF, and the door has been hinged to the wall on high quality, fully concealed, soft close hinges. All the carcassing material is in oak effect melamine faced MDF in a biscuited carcass screwed construction – in other words, super strong!
All exterior pieces have maple framework and moisture resistant MDF panels. On this job we were asked to leave the furniture unfinished, so it’s been left raw for our client to prime and paint. Of course, the whole unit has been fully fitted, and scribed to walls floor and ceiling, so it all stands and fits – perfectly.
