Hall or nothing

Earlier this year we were commissioned to design and make hallway furniture for our clients who own a wonderful Arts and Crafts house in Gerrards Cross. Our clients wanted a settle bench and a coat peg rail, and required both to fit in seamlessly their hallway with the rest of the style of the house. The peg rail is constructed in Ash with hand-turned pegs and then spray painted to expose the grain, matching with the old wire brushed and painted wood work in this room. The settle bench is made from English Oak and all the turning has been done by hand. The legs come up through the seat and are wedged with Walnut. The seat face has been dished out by hand to give comfort and aesthetics, and then the whole seat finished in a clear hard-wearing lacquer.
