We completed this commission for our clients in Botolph Claydon in May of this year. Again, this is a popular modification that we are asked to carry out often as it creates useful space out of very little – an area under the stairs that is usually boarded up or underused.
The bookcase also acts cleverly as a door to the under stairs space. We had metal work fabricated to support the weight of the door and shelves, and then we fitted some massive bearings to take the weight of the door and enable it to be opened with ease. The second bookcase is fixed next to the door, also creating the wall to the under stairs space, and then the oak panel at the bottom of the stair case opens to offer even more storage space. The shelves are painted in Dulux Pure Brilliant White, and are constructed in moisture-resistant MDF and maple with oak. All in all, very clever, and stylish too.
