It’s the beginning of a brand new year, so Happy New Year to everyone from at Mark Williamson Furniture! We have started off 2015 as we mean to go on by installing new machinery so that we can continue to make our furniture as good as we can, and as efficiently as we can.

We have invested in a new thicknessing machine to replace our old one, which had begun to show its vintage. Our supplier visited the Robland factory in Belgium and returned with our new machine at the beginning of December – it has now been wired in and is fully operational. The supplier has taken the old machine to be recycled, and probably it will be shipped to a factory in Africa or Asia to carry on its working life in new hands. The job of the thicknesser is to plane lengths of rough cut timber into level, parallel pieces after being put through the planer. It doesn’t and can’t replace the final hand finish that comes with years of experience, but reduces the time spent on laborious preparation.
